NIL · Name, Image & Likeness

You're already a brand.

Formative helps student-athletes turn their name, image, and likeness into a real personal brand — with a 60-minute workshop, a one-page game plan, and a verified profile brands can actually find.

Education, not legal advice. Built around real compliance.

The Personal Brand Brief

Your one-page game plan

The opportunity

The school check isn't the whole game.

Since 2025, schools can pay athletes directly — but that money is concentrated on a handful of players in football and men's basketball. For everyone else, the real, lasting lever is the audience and brand you build yourself.

  • Your audience is the asset you keep — long after eligibility ends.
  • A clear brand opens third-party deals in every division and most states.
  • Start now and you walk into the next level already ahead.
The Formative thesis

Athletes are small businesses.

You have a product, an audience, and revenue. You just haven't been handed the tools. The workshop hands them over — then Formative runs the business side.

The workshop

A 60-minute working session

Not a lecture — a build. Athletes leave with a brand they can post this week, on the Personal Brand Brief they fill in as they go.

EXERCISE 1

Find your three words

Who you are beyond your position and stats. These become the filter for every post you make.

EXERCISE 2

Pick your three lanes

The repeatable themes fans follow you for — the grind, game day, off the field, faith & family, and more.

EXERCISE 3 & 4

Draft your signature post

Audit your last nine posts, then draft the one post only you could make this week — hook, moment, and why it's you.

Bring the workshop to your team.

60 minutes, sport-specific decks included — for high school and college programs.

Built for compliance

Play it safe. Know your lane.

NIL rules vary by division, state, and citizenship status — and they change. Our materials teach the guardrails and point athletes to the right authority. This is education, not legal advice.

Real deals only

Real work — post, appear, endorse. No pay-for-play, no no-show deals, no school logos or booster collectives.

Disclose every deal

College deals over $600 get a fair-value check; high schoolers disclose to their AD with a parent. When in doubt, ask first.

Protect eligibility

A bad deal can cost a season now and eligibility later — and for international (F-1) athletes, a visa. Check first, sign second.

Every sport in a High School and a College edition — each with level-appropriate NIL economics and compliance. Ready to run as a 60-minute session.

Decks are educational materials. NIL rules change frequently — verify with the relevant compliance office or state association before any deal.

Questions

NIL workshops, answered

A 60-minute working session that helps student-athletes build a personal brand and understand NIL. Athletes leave with three identity words, three content lanes, and a signature post — captured on a one-page Personal Brand Brief — plus a live Formative profile.
No. The workshop and the compliance reference are educational only. NIL rules vary by division, state, and citizenship status and change frequently. Always confirm with the school's compliance office or state athletic association before any deal.
Football, basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, wrestling, volleyball, track & field, lacrosse, and tennis — each in a High School and a College edition, with level-appropriate NIL and compliance content.
In about 45 states, high school athletes can do third-party NIL brand deals, though usually with limits — no school marks, no pay-for-play, disclosure to the athletic director, and a parent's sign-off. Rules are set by each state association.
